Many immigrants who have lived peacefully in the U.S. for decades are being deported each day—parents are detained as they drop their children off at school. Workers are being picked up on the job. Mothers shopping with their children are taken away. And yet, undocumented immigration is a civil offense, not a criminal violation. The Immigrant Legal Center is the last resort for legal assistance for many low-income families who came to the U.S. to escape desperate poverty, extreme violence, and state-sponsored bloodshed.
Make friends with an immigrant. Share information and activities from your cultures. You can volunteer your time and talent in numerous forms such as interpreting and translating, assisting with events and fundraisers, and more.
