Immigrant Legal Center and Unity in Action Celebrate Successful Open House

On Thursday, March 5, Immigrant Legal Center and Unity in Action celebrated their shared accomplishments at a community Open House in South Sioux City.  The two organizations came together under one roof 2019 and work together to create a welcoming environment for diverse populations in the Siouxland area by promoting education, advocacy, and direct legal services.

“Immigrant Legal Center was initially awarded a grant to do capacity building work in South Sioux City in 2014.  That same year, we began working with Unity in Action, “said Dearra Godinez, Senior Managing Attorney. “At the Open House, it was such a blessing to see the incredible turnout and outpouring of community support for our collaborative efforts to create an inclusive and welcoming Nebraska.”

As members of the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially welcome both organizations to the Chamber. All Chamber Ambassadors attended the Open House, in addition to other distinguished leaders. Those included Chief Ed Mahon of SSC Police Department, Director JoAnn Gieselman of Growing Community Connections, Executive Director Erika Deleon of One Siouxland, Dakota County Commissioner Tony Gomez, Attorney Revathi Truong, Attorney Amy Abraham and DOJ Rep. Andrea Paret of Mary J. Treglia Community House, Oscar Gomez City Administrator Assistant, and a plethora more of distinguished leaders.

Immigrant Legal Center thanks in the Siouxland area for their support and willingness to create a welcoming environment for immigrants in our community. We look forward to another successful year!
