Feb. 28, 2019 – On Wednesday, May 8, Immigrant Legal Center will celebrate 20 years of welcoming immigrants into our communities at our 20th Anniversary Open House. The celebration will continue throughout 2019.

The Open House will be in our newly renovated office building on 4223 Center Street in Omaha, Nebraska. Our new home is more accessible to our clients and more efficient for the staff. We will share our accomplishments from our humble beginnings in 1999 at Grace Methodist Church with an all-volunteer staff, through our growth to a current professional staff of 41 with eight total offices in Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

-A Sample of Our Major Accomplishments in 20 Years-

  • In 2011, we worked on 501 cases. In 2018, client cases rose to 3,821, serving clients with life-changing, and often life-saving immigration legal assistance.
  • Won an Impact Litigation case (S.V. v. U.S.), as an unconstitutional deprivation of liberty of a U.S. citizen child who was arrested, detained for over 40 days, and threatened with deportation for a year. (2016)
  • Won an Impact Litigation case (Aguinada-Lopez v. Lynch), when DHS unlawfully deported an asylum seeker. The Eighth Circuit is now required to weigh asylum cases based on family ties as legitimate fear for seeking asylum. (2017)

We are honored to have the support of our collaborative partners, supporters, and clients that continuously inspire us to fight for a just immigration system.

We offer free services to vulnerable immigrants who are victims of violent crime, abused or abandoned children, and those who would be persecuted if they returned to their home country.
